Do I have to use ear drops before I come to see you?
No, it's not necessary to use ear drops or olive oil before you visit us, however if you believe the wax has been there many years and is uncomfortable or painful then using olive oil 2 to 3 days beforehand can be very helpful.
How quickly can I be seen?
Our clinic is currently open every Tuesday from 10am till 7pm. Generally, we can book you in on the next Tuesday at the time of booking. If enquiries are made on a Tuesday, we are likely to be able to book you in on the same day.
Do you offer home visits?
Yes, home visits are available however an extra charge will have to be made depending on the distance and time taken to travel. This is generally about £20.
I've had ear problems and surgery in the past, is microsuction safe for me?
Microsuction is the safest way to clean your ear because it is performed under direct vision through a microscope, which gives us a magnified view of what is going on. Ear syringing should be avoided if you have had previous surgery on your ears.
Does it hurt?
Not usually, however it can be noisy and your ear canal skin is sensitive, so we do everything we can to avoid touching it with the suction end.
I have Otitis Externa (inflammation of the external ear) can you help?
This is an infection of the external auditory meatus or ear canal, and we would recommend that you see your GP first, as he/she can prescribe medication if necessary. However, we are able to clear infected ear canals if or when appropriate, as this can often speed up the healing process. There will be an extra charge of £20.00 for this as much of our pump waste system will have to be disposed of.
Does wax come back?
Often wax re-accumulates and many people like to have their ears cleaned on a regular basis. Typical time intervals are every 3, 6, 9 or 12 months. Of course any time interval that suits you can be arranged.
What if no wax is found?
If on examination there is no wax blocking your ears, we conduct video otoscopy and where appropriate do a hearing test. The charge will be reduced to £20.00, which covers the cost of your consultation and examination. We will also be able to give you advice, and refer you to an ENT provider or back to your GP. A copy of your audiogram can also be provided for an extra fee of £60.00.
